Vice Chair of Fannie Mae, Jamie S. Gorelick, to Join Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering

Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering ("WCP") today announced that effective July 1, Jamie S. Gorelick, Vice Chair of Fannie Mae, will join the firm as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office.
Ms. Gorelick, a former Deputy Attorney General and General Counsel of the Department of Defense -- one of the nation's most distinguished and respected lawyers -- will join WCP's litigation practice and advise clients on matters that involve complex legal, public policy and business issues.
During Ms. Gorelick's first year at the firm, she will continue to devote a substantial portion of her time to the work of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.

Ms. Gorelick currently is serving as Vice Chair of Fannie Mae, the nation's largest source of financing for home mortgages. As part of the Office of the Chairman, she has shared responsibility for overall management of the company, with special emphasis on affordable housing, and has overseen Fannie Mae's external relationships, legal and regulatory affairs.
Ms. Gorelick also serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of both Fannie Mae and the Fannie Mae Foundation and has helped solidify Fannie Mae's perennial standing as one of the world's best run companies.

Prior to joining Fannie Mae in May 1997, Ms. Gorelick was Deputy Attorney General of the United States, the second ranking official in the Department of Justice and the Chief Operating Officer of the Department. In this capacity, she was responsible for managing an organization with over 100,000 employees and a budget of $18 billion.
Prior to assuming that position, Ms. Gorelick served as General Counsel of the Department of Defense where she was awarded the Secretary of Defense Distinguished Service Medal.
From 1975 to 1979, and again from 1980 to 1993, Ms. Gorelick was a litigator with the Washington, D.C. firm of Miller, Cassidy, Larroca and Lewin, where she represented major U.S. companies on a broad range of legal and business matters.
From 1992 to 1993, she served as President of the District of Columbia Bar. Ms. Gorelick is a graduate of Harvard College (magna cum laude, 1972) where she was Radcliffe Orator, and Harvard Law School (cum laude, 1975). She has taught at Harvard Law School and as a Teaching Fellow in Government at the Kennedy School of Government.
She is a member of Harvard's Board of Overseers and the Visiting Committee to Harvard Law School.
Ms. Gorelick will remain on the Board of the Fannie Mae Foundation. She also serves on several other Boards including United Technologies Corporation; Schlumberger, Limited; The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; America's Promise; the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless; the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; and The National Park Foundation. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Law Institute. In addition to the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, Ms. Gorelick currently serves on the Central Intelligence Agency's National Security Advisory Panel.
She co-chaired, with Senator Sam Nunn, the Advisory Committee of the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection and was a member of President George W. Bush's Review of Intelligence.
In addition to the Secretary of Defense Award, Ms. Gorelick has received many awards and commendations throughout her stellar career. Among these honors are the Director of Central Intelligence Award, the Department of Justice's Edmund J. Randolph Award, the Secretary of Energy's Outstanding Service Medal, the Outstanding Public Interest Advocate of the Year Award, the American Bar Association's Margaret Brent Award and the Women's Bar Association's Woman Lawyer of the Year Award.
Ms. Gorelick is listed in Fortune Magazine's "Fifty Most Powerful Women in American Business" and Working Mother Magazine's "Twenty-Five Most Influential Working Mothers in America."
